She and BF were off this morning to fly to Italy. They packed last night, then headed out to pub for a Valentine's drink. She went to bar to get refills...to realise her bag had been stolen. In it were keys, cards,wallet...and PASSPORT!!!
Spent the evening in police station...contacted embassy etc this morning.
Got to work and found email that passport and bag found. Her business cards were still in bag. Everything else gone. They even emptied her account...just a small amount luckily...in Tescos.
So she met up with 2 homeless( looking)men who had her bag...found in a dustbin.
( not sure about that, but she's a good judge of people)
Airline has her booked in for tomorrow...and embassy doesn't believe passport has been cancelled. Fingers crossed!!!

Oh no, what a horrible thing to happen. Hope, in spite of this, she has a great time in Italy.
Oh Pasta, what a shame, glad there's been a good ending of sorts.

Some nasty people aren't there?
I know there's no "level" of crime but, IMO, crimes against the person like this are the lowest of the low and ought to incur the highest penalties.
Totally agree,dave.
Poor girl, what a horrid start. At least she got some stuff back. Hope she enjoys her hols.
Oh how awful for her. I cannot believe some people.
Oh, Pasta......I'm so sorry to read this.......and I do know from experience how your daughter felt....

I'm glad she's had her passport returned and hope she gets away and has a good holiday....Gcx
Dave, this isn't a crime against the person, it's theft. I'm quite happy for real crimes against the person, like assault, to have much higher punishments.
Of course it's a crime against the person! It was a crime perpetuated against an individual, not like shoplifting or insider trading. Are you seriously saying that a person was not affected by this crime?
Of course it's a crime against the person...

I hope the lowlife scum gets caught.
L'il Abner sure does look cute, NoM!
I am so sorry

off putting
this happened to me in Ethpanya
and sort of dampened any desire to go again.

outside Lazaro Galdiano museum - never made it in
Plain clothes police searched me and told me to pick up cards from the police station
which was kinda convenient as it was the one you reported card theft from ( calle de recogidas)

Sooooo inefficient that I went back 0730 the next day ( 24 hr !) and waited in a queue the evg before with ten or fifteen others
and we ALL had a good natter and unburdened ourselves
and after three hours with nothing happening someone ACTUALLY said
"that was good- I am going now I feel much better!"
and another said 'zad eez good therapy!"

so that was Friday and the flight was Sun pm
and I had 3/6 to last me in Madree'

and.... have never gone back
That's terrible Pasta - I hope your daughter can get away tomorrow and enjoy her holiday

Well...she's missed one day of....snowboarding. ;-)
I doubt the creep will get caught...pub...subdued lighting. Little chance.
Me...I have to admit I wanted to yell at her....WHY DID YOU TAKE YOUR PASSPORT TO A PUB????
We had OH's passport pinched from the unlocked-overnight car, the idiot! Phoned the Passport Office, told to take relevant docs to Passport Office for replacement. Problem was all the relevant docs were at home, in Germany, took a while to explain that we couldn't 'deal' with it from Germany as we couldn't get back there. Luckily MOD, his boss at the time, had all our details and they faxed them to Liverpool office. We now always have a number of photo-copies of the passports when we travel.
Hope everything goes well for you daughter's trip Pasta.
Dave, NoM, that's not what crimes against the person are. They're crimes against property. Of course the owners of the property will be affected, but the crimes are against their property, not them

It's perfectly possible the thieves hadn't the slightest idea who their victim was

pasta,
sorry to hear that. You wanted to scream at her, havent we all done something silly.
The experience will teach her better than any advice us mums can give x
Thanks, GG. He gets cuter by the day.

Pasta, do you know if the pub has CCTV?
I had passport pick pocketed at Birmingham airport ! On way home fortunately... big market for them so she was lucky to get it back...but horrid feeling to be stolen from..
Question Author
I've not heard anything, so i assume she's in Italy now...though I hope she sends a message just to put my mind at rest.
Eleena...she's usually quite sensible. It was probably in her bag to avoid the " where did I put it!!!" scenario in the morning. That happened a year or so ago...it had fallen off the bed and was hidden under rejected clothes.
Nom...I'm sure the pub has cctv. Whether or not the toerags were caught on camera is something else.
