So proud of our daughter. She lives on her her own and manages quite well with just the one salary coming in. At Christmas her friend asked her if she would like to go abroad for a holiday but she did not think she could afford it. She will not take money off us even though we offered. She looked at her monthly budget and decided that the one thing that could go was her monthly train pass so from January she has walked to work and back which is 14,000 steps there and 14,000 steps home, all measured on her FitBit. She also walks between 6-8,000 steps in her lunch hour. Her total steps this week from Mon am to this lunchtime is 131,000 steps. Needless to say that next month she is off abroad with her friend. In the process she has lost over 3 stones and several inches off her waist. The people she works with have been so impressed that they have bought FitBits and now have a weekly competition to see who can do the most steps. She currently lives in Birmingham but when she lived back up north she would regularly walk from the other side of Oldham to Manchester University where she worked and then walk home again each evening. Mr BD has now decided that we must start going out for a walk every day but we'll be doing a lot less than that I can assure you.

She has never had a hot drink in her life as she disliked tea and coffee from the first time she tried them when she was a tot so she has always drunk her fair share of water but she gave up the Cola as well. She does not like the low sugar versions. She loves chicken, pizzas, salads, pasta, rice but not a fan of bread. Does not eat a lot of fruit as she has ulcerative colitis and fruit and fruit juices seem to set it off so they are out. Never drinks milk so has to buy some in when we visit.
How funny, I started doing a daily walk on Monday. In just 4 days I've noticed a huge difference. In the run up to my first walk I was so stiff first thing in the morning and following periods of inactivity that I found it hard to stand on my feet and mobilise, to the point that I felt riddled with arthritis. I went so long hardly doing any activity as I had no energy during my pregnancy and was weak and exhausted all the time. Rather than battle it, I let it consume me.
I have forced myself each day to do a long walk pushing the pram up steep hills and back down again. The difference in a few short days is amazing and the pain and stiffness in my feet and legs has vanished and I feel more energised than I have done in a very long time.

My brother had a heart attack last September followed by a triple bypass. He now walks at least 5 miles a day and feels tons better for it. The beauty of it is, apart from getting a pair of suitable shoes, its absolutely free and can be done at any time of the day. Well done NoMercy in making that first effort. Your little one will benefit from the fresh air as well.
