My doctor has asked me to have the flu jab this year and so I have booked one but am surprised to be asked!

I am 56, on medication for high blood pressure and underactive thyroid, but am otherwise fit and healthy, have an active and demanding job and also look after my husband and son.

Is it my age that the doctor is now looking at?!

Many thanks,

Ros

I would have thought it's on offer to anyone. Nasty thing, flu (it's much more than just a bad cold), for people of any age.

Are you a bird, perhaps?

Last year the minimum age to qualify for a flu jab was 65. This year they have reduced the minimum age to 55.

I think that's why you have been invited, and not anything to do with anything else...but I suggest just double checking with your GP. I'm sure that she/he, or one of the administration staff would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Hope this helps,

Ace
I've been having them (free) since before that. I just ask and am given.
i work in an NHS surgery and we target over 65's also people with asthma ,diabetes, COPD ( (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)CHD cronic heart disease)all call for offering a flu injection

any one who is vunerable ie asthmatics, people with high BP are offered or should have it automatically as a precaution. I have High BP but I refuse to had it as it knocked my mum of her feet for 3 weeks. But that is because she had a reaction to it and was many years ago.

dont get worried, it's all about money. The surgfery gets more money if the hit or exceed their targets for flu jabbing people. In my pct, the district nurses are not doing the jabs for housebound elderly people that arent on their caseload already, as its just too time consuming. To get round this, and to meet their targets they have been getting the practice nurses to go out to people, to make sure they get their money (this is complicayted because the district nurses arent employed by the surgery, and practice nurses are)
I got offered last year (45 yr old at time) because my blood preasure fluctuates.I didnt bother cos I think it cause fluey symtoms in some people and knowing my luck.....
