Does anyone have any good tips for treating and/or avoiding sensitive teeth? I've booked to see my dentist but just wondering if there is anything that I can do myself.

I take it you are using sensitive toothpaste which does help. My dentist said that if I had a particularly sensitive tooth I should rub a wee bit of sensitive toothpaste directly into tooth after they had been cleaned.
I use sensodine toothpaste and it really works. Also when I've put the toothpaste on my brush I rinse it under the hot water tap rather than the cold before putting it on my teeth as even now cold water still hurts!
yup Sensodyne toothpaste.
When was your last visit to the dentist?
It the tooth throbbing?is it just on cold hot and sweet things.
If it is throbbing its likely to be an infection.
if it is more than one tooth do sensodyne. Does it hurt when you bite hard on something? if so it vould be a hiarline crack.
If its just on cold hot and sweet things.SENSODYNE !!!
Try this for a few weeks. Dont go to your dentist he/she will probably tell you the same and you could give me the money instead.
Sensodine is what is recommended by most dentists Kitty.
Whoops - that's Sensodyne with a 'y'!
I'll join the queue suggesting the same thing. My late mother had 'sensitive teeeth' problems and swore by Sensodyne toothpaste.

Just a note, though: At one time Sensodyne was probably the only product available but I've seen 'own brand' products offered by the major supermarkets at much lower prices. Ask the in-store pharmacist for advice if you need it.

Chris

yes Sensodyne PRO is what the dentist will give you and this is more expensive, the own brand stuff and some of the normal cheaper sensodyne in supermarkets etc.... is not as strong and effective as the sensodyne PRO.

Just a point but the sensitivity of teeth is sometimes due to ''microholes'' in the base of the tooth allowing exposure to the nerves inside, Tannic acid blocks these holes and stops the pain and Tannic acid is found in.... a good old cup of tea, if you drink tea on a regular basis it helps with this problem.
