It may be something simple like haemeroids, or a small polip, but it could be something more serious which can be treated and cured if located, and becme life-threatening if ignored.
No-one is fond of having a stranger explore their rectum (leave it!) but it's worth it to put your mind at rest.
I agree with those who say you should get a proper medical opinion, for your own piece of mind if nothing else. As Andy and Jake imply, the earlier you see a doctor, the more likely they will be able to cure you, should, god forbid, it turns out to be serious. Worth a bit of embarrasment, I'd think!
I can add that if the blood is bright scarlet, it is unlikely to be anything too serious - probably you've strained too hard and ruptured a small blood vessel.
If it's dark and within the stool itself, it is potentially much more serious.
