Sooner or later I'm going to have the above :-(
Has anyone on here had this operation under epidural? If so, what was it like?

well under spinal which I think from AB's pt of view is identical.

OK - very good pain relief and excellent recovery and result

you sleep during mmost of it as the anaesthetist slips in a little sedative - m,idaz...
The way to go. Excellent. I found it noisy with instruments being discarded and background chatter but not bothersome. Effects gradually wear off in about four hours.

I've had both mine done with a spinal block didn't feel a thing and as mentioned you are given a sedative .
Yes....I have .
30 years ago.....(R) hip replacement under general anaesthesia.
25 years ago....(L) hip replacement under "spinal."..epidural or whatever.

No contest.....epidural was the better experience for all the reasons given by above.
My husband had an operation with a spinal block and when he needed another operation he had no hesitation in choosing the same method.

Thanks for your replies. Spinal block/epidural it is then.
Good luck with it, Melv. I hope it all goes well.
I`m glad you have posted this. My best friend is going to have a hip replacement and she wants to have it done this way. I thought she was mad but obviously not.
I opted to have epidural but after three failed attempts I was given a general anesthetic. I have a friend who had an epidural and had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
Have had two hip replacements, but both done under a general anesthetic. Both successful - good luck with yours.
