Mri Scan

just wondering.
If doctor refers you for one and it happens, who is given the results?
Hopefully the patient, of course, but would the results not also go to the gp?

Anyhoo, have found phone number for the hossie, will give them a phone tomorrow.
Just thought the whole thing was a bit odd,
Chrissa, I was overjoyed when GP said he was worried about my brain. I did ask him if he could put it in writing that I do have one :-))

absolutely no word from anyone Mamya, no phone call, no letter, nada, zip, not a thing.
I've got a number and will phone them in the morning, see what they've got to say, if anything.
I'm just finding this a bit odd as in the past been referred for tests and gp's surgery have phoned to say they have results and been given an appointment time to see gp. Mostly good news I'm glad to say.
Thank you all for your comments, I do appreciate you taking the time to post xxxx

Alba I work in scotland.
Mri scans are reported to the person who booked it (usually Doc/Consultant/ Nurse specialist)
Id say to call the Neurology dept secretaries and ask if you have a follow up appointment booked for your scan result and if not can you have one.
On our system the GP cant always access the scan, they may get a copy or a letter from the consultant but even then the GP may be limited on what advice to give etc and you may be better seeing the specialist.
If its nothing then great (fingers crossed!!!!)
Sometimes if something needs further discussion its discussed at a specialist meeting.
Id absolutley try the secretaries for an appointment xxx

I know someone who had an X-ray and if I remember correctly it took over two weeks for her to find out what came out of it and then got it "unofficially" from another GP at the practice because the one the x-ray had been sent to (she ordered it) was unavailable. My understanding is that it is common practice in the NHS to not make images/results/outcomes routinely available directly to the patient, only through a doctor, but a request for a copy may likely be successful but then from the doctor and not separately and certainly not in advance of the doctor seeing them. Abroad you for example usually get the x-ray image into your hands within minutes, scans as soon as they and an interpretation has been put together, these are in those cases considered the patient's property.
// In the US you get a copy of everything which I love, in the UK I think it tends to go only to the GP x//
well the data is now digitised and stays in the machine
a print cd be made - I asked for one and was told no- (PET scans are even worse) and I whined - its my data !
The clerk looked blank ( he shoulda said - apply froo our data controller)
It goes to a radiologist ( altho on the way anyone can look at it) and his report - is your data and you can get a copy if you ask for it ( try the clerk but it is the data contoller again)
That is the one you want
The gp gets a copy - and yes it is your data and you can ask for a copy
