The reason for the removal was that the cut nerve had healed into a lump and it was permanently painful. The doc put in a shot of local anaesthetic and my whole thumb went numb. I actually watched him do it and put the stitches in and I never felt a thing, it was a bit sore afterwards but really okay. Sometimes they freeze moles off and that smarts a bit when done and is a bit sore afterawards as it scabs up but again honestly is no big deal. My Mum is in her eighties and has moles and lesions removed about every six months, she says the worst part is waiting in out patients because the clinics are always running late and the chairs are uncomfortable lol.
Honestly as Toecrusher has said, you will be fine
((hugs))
When you say a growth, is it on the surface or under the skin? Depending on that, and what the actual growth is, they may be able to just freeze it. I had a small growth on my face which they froze. It,s not too unpleasant, just a little stinging sensation, but certainly nothing to worry about. The growth, over a period of around 2 weeks (depending on size) then dries up and falls off. It can leave a slight discolouration of the skin, but normally there's no visible mark left behind.
Hope that helps. And don't worry !!
