We have just had the flu vaccine done this morning. Everyone is giving me conflicting views as to whether it will prevent flu in Japan, but anyway, no harm done and will protect us when we return. It takes 2 weeks to be effective anyway apparently, and we are off next Thursday, so would be vulnerable for a week. I don't know why I am so concerned, it's not as if there is a Hot Zone of influenza in Japan anyway !
If we are advised to have a flu jab, I wonder why some people don’t use the service. Would we ignore, mammogram, cervical screening, prostate investigations, stool sampling. I say if it’s there please take advantage of it .
According to the NHS website, the flu jab offers protection against 1 or 2 of the worst strains and 1 or 2 of the lesser ones. Advice is given by the WHO on which strains to include about 9 months before vaccinations begin.
