Moaners here...form a queue. The too soon and the can't be bovvered. Let the Christmas fairies do their thing in peace.
If I can start.... I really dont like the blue and white non Christmas lights put up this time of year by local councils either because those LEDs are cheap or the designs say nothing

I used to be a Christmas nut, couldn't get enough of it, but things change when you lose loved ones and people talking about it all the time can hurt and yet you can't blame them, I used to be the same.

I dislike Christmas films being on way too early ...

Changed for me when I couldn't have children, no other little ones in the family so no point. It always reminds me of that huge gap in my life.
Xmas songs blasting out in shops when you're trying to concentrate on shopping, especially for gifts. I want to scream when Slade comes on. 'Its Christmas!'
It's not always a good time for so many people for allsorts of reasons and yet it's thrust upon us from September .. I just make the best of it for the sake of others, but it is hard sometimes x
aww Bless you Rowan, I don't have any children of my own but always nice to see my Nieces... it's still magical for them (7 & will be 9)

Agree with HIA. We gave our kids all at Christmas and had it chucked back in our face. We have lost our gorgeous grand daughters through our sons selfishness. I have no reason to think Christmas is magic any longer. Yup. Bah humbug indeed.
It's awful isn't it retro, I NEVER wanted to be one of those people who didn't like Christmas and have to grin and bear it when people go on and on about it (as I used to), but things change as life moves on and there's nowt we can do about it. I make the most of it and still feel occasional joy at the odd times.
A lot less Christmassy here this year. All the kids are at high school and beyond so they’re not getting the hype from school. We’ll put decorations up but it is a pre-lit tree (because of the cat) and we’re doing 12 day advent calendars instead of the advent calendar bag of doom. On the plus side, boy #1 is home on 14 December which will be lovely having him here for three weeks (and everyone where they should be).
My oldest is coming back over Christmas too, but we are all cutting down on spending (I say that every year...) :-)
Arh as much as I love it, I’m taking time out to say I’m sad for Ronan,Retro and HereIam , you tend to get carried along and it’s easy to feel festive when you’re not feeling sad,

Yes....I hope you all have as good a time as possible, in whichever way you choose xx
Christmas can be very hard indeed at times and for various reasons as we see above, enforced jollity can make it worse - I would never try to force people into that.

I do spend more of the time remembering now than I did and seem to get by.

Be as happy as you can everyone whatever you are doing.x
If, for some reason, I wasn't able to spend Christmas with my family, I would have to do something totally different instead. Helping in a soup kitchen, volunteering somewhere etc, and spend it in a different way. The comparison would be too hard otherwise.

I would volunteer but I have mum staying. She is getting muddled and will spend her time either sleeping or telling old stories that I know are no longer what happened. I will do my best but there is a limit to how many reruns of quiz shows I can cope with.
Christmas starts far too early.
I understand, Rowan x
My daughter will be in Ireland for Christmas/NY. My son is going but coming back on the 23rd so will spend the day with us. Pigs in blankets is about as christmassy I get :-)

I've bought 3 lots so far and they've all been eaten.
I've disliked it for a long time. As soon as the yearly frenzy starts, all I can hear is "spend, spend, spend". The shops are full of hideous tat...nothing different, and it will all be there 50% off in a few weeks.
God help those with kids...I don't envy them.
Daughter is the same as me...so we are happy to just slob about. I do know it would be different if there were grand kids. Don't tell DD though...
Christmas was always my magical time of year. My mother was Devonian and we spent Christmas every year with aunts and uncles in the true rustic village style they celebrated it.I always maintained that tradition for my mother and family. The kids loved it. Now they are grown up I find they are,for their own selfish reasons, not interested.
They can stay on there own, skint and friendless for all I care over Christmas. My younger son will be accompanying us for our Sojourn away and all the more merrier for his company. Shame that I now enjoy Christmas in the style I used to enjoy ,but no longer with my full family with lovely young kids , in another country.
