Hi jo! A recognised treatment for s.a.d. is the light box. Take a look at the s.a.d. website on www.sada.org.uk . It will give you a lot of information and useful suggestions for lifting your spirits. Best wishes.

I had an interesting chat with someone who runs a support group for SAD sufferers.
The general idea is to provide as much colour as possible and to try to make things as bright as possible.
Painting the walls yellow or another "springlike" colour helps, bright lighting indoors is good. having lots of bright cut flower around and seasonal pot plants is benificial too.
Try growing some early daffs in pots. Bring some winter heather, polyanthus and winter pansies in doors....and make sure there's lots of nice, colourful plants in the garden.
Simple things like have the computer wallpaper and/or screensaver with nice bright scenes will help....get a lovely little tropical fish tank and put nice pictures on the wall

Hope this helps a bit and good luck

a lightbox is definitely the answer...but the waiting list is huge if you go through the NHS. I think i may have been suffering from S.A.D a couple of years ago. it is where your vitamin D stores are really low (so it normally hits around january time when they're all gone)

make sure your skin is exposed to as much sunlight as possible (not always easy when it's sunny and freezing like this morning) i have to admit i just had sunbeds...that way you get fake sunshine. i know they are not very PC...but it's a suggestion.

Try and get out more. Go to the park on sunny days and if you work in and office, get out at lunchtime for a walk. Like AndyJevs says, use bright colours and flowers to lift your mood.
