self isolation advice. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ No one is being TOLD to self isolate if they are not ill. if/when it comes to it, it will be strongly suggested to vulnerable people of any age that they should self isolate FOR THEIR PROTECTION. Statistically so far, people over 70 seem to be at risk. This will be difficult enough without people going off half cocked over what people think has been said.
Who has told oldies 'to be frightened'? I can't find anything on that.

\\ More people in the UK should isolate themselves to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced.//
\\ Self-isolation means cutting yourself off from the rest of the world.//
What is half cocked about those two statements?
got a link vulcan?
That BBC link is from 12th March. Things are changing (and back peddling) quite quickly. You only need to self isolate for 7 days if you have symptoms. You don't now need to if you have been in contact with people with the virus or are coming back from a country that has been infected. I think the powers that be have realised that such drastic measures have to be weighed against the risk to the economy. No point in all staying at home if the country collapses.
"Mr Shapps told BBC Radio 4's Today programme [those over seventy] would still be able to go for a walk outside"

Does anyone know how to make 2 toilet rolls last or 4 months?
use both sides?
"Including being frightened?"

Who has told you to be frightened?

First I said, do what you want, then I say do what you're told.

You have a problem with both which is typical for a OAP to want one thing then the next then not to be sure of what they want. Ay?
"Does anyone know how to make 2 toilet rolls last or 4 months?"

Use one piece at a time, when finger breaks through just keep using finger instead of using more toilet roll and wash hands appropriately ;)
This hasn't been announced in the UK yet. Isn't there enough panic and confusion (and an over-saturation of Covid threads on AB) without adding to it by posting things that are not currently in place? Things that would undoubtedly frighten many. I think it's irresponsible.
237, you say, you only have to isolate for seven days if you have the symptoms, why then is the government saying the elderly should be contained for four months, irrespective of having symptoms or not? There's a huge difference between seven days with symptoms and four months without, not all elderly people are decrepit, infirm or ill.
Who is telling oldies to be scared?

Everything is ‘telling’ us elderly/at risks to be frightened.

The media, blowing up all statistics into Sensations! People Die! headlines. The government, veering between Corporal Jones-like ‘Don’t Panic’ pronouncements, and their own spokesmen talking of 4 out of 5 catching the virus, and 500,000 dying!

Being told/advised to stay indoors for 4 months! I have all sorts of ailments which could all one day kill me.

I don’t want to add ANXIETY to my problems.

Allen
Thanks, Allen. I can understand your anxieties, but I don't see it that you've been 'told to be frightened'. Yes, the sheer weight of information and misinformation is burdensome, but I don't much like the idea of the opposite - us being told nothing, being given no facts etc.
Obviously the “4 month or whatever” is for self protection. The “7 day” thing is if you’re ill. to protect others
They are not saying the elderly are contagious only that they are more at risk.

If they are out and about getting messages, they are more likely to contract the virus than if isolated and the consequences can be fatal.
Ichkeria, and they know for a fact that it only lasts seven days and people cannot pass on the virus after the seven days?

so do I Prudie. I am all for freedom of the media but spreading alarm and despondency was made illegal during the war wasn't it?
Allenlondon, the BBC website has an article, from the World Health Organisation, on how to protect mental health.
