Covid And Pneumonia

My husband is in hospital with Covid and pneumonia. He is 82 and has other health problems. I managed to speak to him today and he is very ill but says he is now on an ordinary oxygen mask before he was put into a type of helmet and he had a job even trying to sleep. What would that be, any ideas?

There are helmet ventilators, not sure if they are used here though.

The photo of that helmet looks just as he described it, he said similar to astronauts helmet. Thanks Mamy

My avatar is only fancy dress, I think anything over the face/head is alien to us, but needs must sometimes.
