Pre Diabetic Or Low Diabetic Tests Strips For Urine
44 Answers
My wife was diagnosed ages ago as being pre diabetic.
Lately some issues causing her concern.
We want to order some test strips for urine, but some reviews said some test strips were not sensitive enough for very low indications of the presence of diabetes.
Can you recommend a test strip that you know is sensitive enough to use?
Some on Amazon were only a few quid but she needs accuracy.
Thank you.

I was picked up as pre-diabetic a few years ago from a blood test. But this was for pre-diabetes, which Mrs T has already been diagnosed with. Maybe there are concerns it has possibly moved on to Type 2 diabetes and this is why Mrs T wants a test and I thought the test for diabetes was a urine test. Anyway, whatever needs to be done would better be done after a phone conversation with a doctor. The symptoms causing concern maybe something else.
A close relative of mine was experiencing some symptoms and spoke to the practice nurse who suggested they dropped a urine sample off at the surgery to be dipped. My relative received a phone call at work a couple of hours later to say they should go to hospital as the dip suggested they had diabetes and further tests were needed.
This was probably about eight years ago.

I would take it he means going to the toilet more often, tiredness, etc and thinks perhaps she may be pre diabetic again, but he doesn't say whether or not she went back to being non pre diabetic as I did after following the recommended diet, but my GP wants me to be tested every year for it in case I go back to it.

Vagus, that was pre Covid. You cannot just drop a urine sample off at the GP's surgery at the moment, it has to be pre arranged. Also, there is a difference between being pre diabetic and having diabetes. You cannot be diagnosed as being pre-diabetic with a urine test, it has to be a blood test and I believe the best way of doing this is with your GP and not as D.I.Y.
I understand that, and if you read my replies you’ll see exactly what I suggested...ringing the surgery first to get some advice. Of course you can’t just turn up at the surgery these days!
You’ll also see what my experience with a family member was, I’m not a medical expert, just relating my experience.
Anyhow, I’ll leave it here.

Vagus, you also said,
///A urine dip, if that’s what the surgery suggested, would probably/possibly show if it’s gone from pre diabetes to type 2.
I speak from experience.///
I didn't see where it said the surgery had suggested this and if your experience of this is a relative who was diagnosed with Diabetes 8 yrs ago, well, I would say that would not put you in the experienced range. Anyway, hopefully Theland understands what needs to be done, so I am leaving it there also.

Sqad, urine testing is not accurate enough, even fasting glucose isn't that common now,

It's the hard to cheat test unlike fasting glucose where going sugar free and drinking extra water could lower the result.
