Unhelpful GP

I have been to the doctor for the second time in 4 months for what I've been told is some form of Gastritis. I basically cannot eat or even drink anything without suffering from excruciating stomach pain, for 1-2 weeks.

The doctor told me I shouldn't go to the doctor if I ever suffer from pain, I should just take paracetamol as they're painkillers so that's what they're for.

I asked if there could be a reason why it's happened more than once when I've never suffered anything similar before, but he just said it would have to happen at least 6 or 7 times before they considered it to be becoming a pattern.

I was hoping he may suggest some sort of tests. The paracetamol makes no difference to the pain. Can I ask for tests, and insist on them if he says no?

See another doctor as this one is being no help at all.

I can't believe how dismissive some GPs are these days! If I were you, I'd get a second opinion, and maybe visit your local casualty department to have it checked out. I'm not for one minute suggesting that your condition is the same as my sister's, but she suffered agonising stomach pains on and off for several months. Her GP repeatedly gave her indigestion remedies for what eventually turned out to be a grumbling appendix, which eventually required an emergency operation. Insist that your case is looked into properly, you pay for the NHS and have a right to a proper diagnosis.

change your doctor any kind of abdominal pain should be taken seriously.

or if in dout contact NHS direct i find them really usefull at giving advice
