In the summer I am out, in shorts when possible, and get as much sunshine as I can. When this damned virus was only distant news I read that Vit D was being touted in China as a useful supplement to aid immune systems and have been taking a supplement every day even in the summer. my bad sleep pattern has only occured in the last few months, up till then i could sleep through the night, now i can't. I put it down to a combo of things, nasal drip which cloggs up my throat, chest, makes me cough a lot, wakes me up, i start awake from bad dreams, and a possible sleep apnoe which can only be determined by a test.
My last blood test showed severe vit D depletion now on high dose supplement to be followed by loved dose for life. it's linked to joint pain, depression, sleep disorders, fatigue, brain fog, and I was surprised to read asthma and a long list of other things. Almost completely matched the long covid list so my GP practice are testing for low vit D first and treating it before referring on. I will let you know in a few weeks.
I remember several years back, my GP (now retired) took bloods to check and (after being away for three weeks for special tests) results came back that I needed Vitamin D ... 800 unit capsules daily which I have been on ever since. This really surprised me as I led quite an active outdoor life - however, did suffer joint pain and now have severe osteoarthritis.. Question is - is the Vit D helping?

I think the government will be supplying 400iu, which is a very low dose that will not help to raise levels of vitamin D for anyone who is low. Which us most of us.
I've been taking 5,000 per day...sometimes more...several times a week. Sometimes not at all in the summer. It's a good idea to also take vitamin K...but not at the same time as vitamin D. It has something to do with what happens to calcium in the body.
