When Did The Rubbish Rise To The Top Of The Barrel?

Trying to pinpoint just WHEN it happened. When tatty old things like metal card cabinets, like ropey Anglepoise lamps, all that sort of rubbish, came glugging up to the top of the barrel so that on the likes of Bargain Hunt people could ask (and pay) really stupid prices for things that you and I would keep in our sheds?

60+ years there were antiques, and there was jumble. Now it seems it's all in one lump!

what are you on about?
I've made a good living selling crappy junk -the Japanese and Australians love it -anything with the Queen on it sells like hot cakes in America. When car boot sales were on I could buy something for a pound and sell it over to Japan for £50 no problem.
Tastes change and then they change again. I think its great that people want to use old stuff rather than just throw it away. if you don't like it then don't watch.

Hello Tora, good to hear from you!

Not sure why your answer doesn't surprise me, Aunt.

Don't be cross Woofgang, it's only a question. (You haven't got to answer it...)
Bill //Not sure why your answer doesn't surprise me, Aunt.//

Probably cos I'm Capitalist scum Comrade ..Lol!
It changed when old outdated stuff was tagged 'Retro'.

One man's junk...
I am not at all cross....just wonder why it seems to bother you?
Drew Pritchard :

A ropey old metal engineers cabinet (degreased). Ideal for your loft apartment. Suit you sir!

A wall rack with umpteen tiny drawers - £600 - bargain! (what do you put in a multitude of tiny drawers?)

He does some nice upholstered chairs though - if you can afford them.
I find it hard to believe what people pay good money for on "Money For Nothing"
The answer may lie in artisan bread shops and chains of coffee outlets.

People are easily led.

Aunt. I’m sure you know the price of everything...

Seems like this thread was designed to draw people in so you can try and insult them.

In your own words, I'm not sure why that doesn't surprise me.
I like watching Bargain Hut but I am amazed at the rubbish some of these so called experts talk contestants into buying. At the fair they'll pay funny money for a tatty suitcase then at the auctionwhere there are a few in for a warm and to be on TV and it goes for a tenner.

Oh Mozz, Mozz, you mistake me. Yes, to drawing people in, but only to exchange genuinely-held and friendly views; as you might have noticed, though, I don't take bullying well, nor fools gladly. Now, shall we be friends?
Well, as for an "exchange of genuinely held and friendly views" I don't see that Polly did much to deserve your rather demeaning reply to her.

It's not a case of being friends, I don't carry grudges on Answerbank, I just reply to individual posts as I see fit. I have no quarrel with you, or anyone.

Mozz. Aunt and I have history. At the end of one spat, way back, she closed by calling me a nasty bit of work and a misogynist.

I’ll admit/own-up to many things, but I draw the line at being called things I’m not! I challenged her on the misogny, but that (apparently) merely confirmed my culpability, and there we remain. I snipe at her, she snipes at me. Shame, but there you go.

Not only Aunt,Mozz.Allen(er)London has a bit of a history on this site, dont you hun?
I don't tend to fret about what other people pay for their items, if they like something and can afford it then it's nowt to do with me.
