Well, having never had it before and being diagnosed over the phone (our doctor isn’t seeing anyone face to face) I’m assuming she is correct. Either way, the pain when passing urine is absolutely horrendous - I’ve never known stinging like it. And the whole area is burning and feels raw. It’s hurting just to sit down. Doctor has given me Canesten cream but is there anything else I am do/take to ease the pain? Sorry for delicate nature of question x
Just to back up what others have been saying . . .
When I started my pelvic radiotherapy I was warned that cystitis was a very likely side effect. At each review time during my treatment I was asked about any cystitis I might have and, when I told them that it was only very mild, they always replied "Oh, you must be drinking plenty of water then. Keep it up"
Did you give a urine sample? Your GP is not doing their job if they diagnose something over the phone without asking for a sample. You could have a serious bladder infection and they need to test your urine to diagnose that.
She should have diagnosed the cystitis with you having a urine test. My sympathies as it is horrendous. You need antibiotics, NOW. Drink loads and loads of water. Hope you feel better soon, once starting the antibiotics you will feel a huge improvement within hours. I'd take a paracetemol also.
All experts out in force tonight.
Canestan cream IS appropriate to soothe the excoriated skin and to neutralise the acidity ofthe urine.
//////%You may as well use Salad Cream, //////
Totally unacceptable remark.
However Salad Cream and yogurt would be useful to ease the pain around the vagina.
No it is not, Sqad. Canesten for cystitis is about as useful as Salad Cream.
Letting cystitis get a hold and then return time after time for years is stupid and unnecessary.
It needs stopping quickly. Believe me I know how cystitis can ruin so much in life for years of it not being taken seriously.
I think a lot of women feel they are experts in cystisis me included and you are lucky you've never had it before smow. I've had many bouts through my life and my understanding is sometimes it's caused by bacteria - which needs a urine test to confirm and then antibiotics - and sometimes it's not (honeymoon cystitis for example) which just needs time, painkillers and lots of fluids to flush it away. I'm guessing you were given Canesten because you said you were very sore externally and that's not a common symptom with a bacterial urine infection although it is with thrush. I agree a phone consultation cannot determine exactly what you've got.
