Winston Churchill Falls Foul Of Wacky Wokism
//A charity set up to continue the legacy of Winston Churchill has erased his first name and pictures of him from its website....A list of his achievements has been removed from the website, as well as a 1,400-word tribute that referenced a ‘much loved leader’ with a ‘bulldog spirit’.//

Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. They have called theirs awards, Churchill Fellowships since 1965, long before there was a fashion for blaming everything on woke.
There are plenty of historical books and websites that explain who Churchill was and his legacy. This organisation is dedicated to learning particularly from travel. That is what it is doing, not idolising the man.

True choux, but I hope the next generations are more willing to learn about the past - good and bad, rather than previous generations who didn’t have access to material which is now readily available.
When I was growing up all I knew about historical figures was the heavily edited versions.
Brilliant that the young are thinking for themselves.

I have no issue with the name change - it works well enough.
However, it surely has to be possible to acknowledge that even the heroes of the past had their faults and within an organisation work to making sure we don't repeat them.
At the same time celebrating and continuing the good that they did.

// He did have his darker side of course, earlier in his life.//
I was a bit stunned to read that a Churchill scholarship was a way to tackle racism since Churchill was against Indian independence
( without India, England is nothing - Curzon actually)
First aerial photo of Baghdad? 1917 - taken whilst the British were bombing the crap out of the Iraqis - under Churchill's orders. (police bombing)
Italian campaign ( soft underbelly of Europe - oops) not a success
Gallipoli - largest POW camp in Europe
it wasnt all blood sweat and tears you know
going off gold standard 1931 - sentencing the country to 10 y recession
