A few on here seemed to be gloating that there had not been a death from it and it was not going to be so bad

They also scoffed at me for saying that reading between the lines the scientists may fear vaccines for unboosted are less effective for omicron so it spreads more...and then a few hours later the announcement was made saying that was the case so boosters are to be accelerated.
I hope it all turns out to be a storm in a teacup and we can loosen up again but it's not looking great to me sadly.

it also doesn't say if the victim was vaccinated or not, was old or young, or whether they had underlying health issues.......
Marvellous !
Let us play semantics as the numbers begin to rise yes ?
Those questions will be answered in the fullness of time but right now
Does it really matter when the number will rise exponentially ?

It does matter, because it highlights the inaccuracy of the information the government is offering.
Quite apart from wondering exactly what we are supposed to do with the statistical information that is pumped out daily about Covid deaths, the fact that the numbers do not reflect accurately the actual deaths from the virus is a matter of concern.
If I catch Covid, and I die from it, I am a Covid statistic.
If I have terminal cancer, and two weeks to live, and I fall over and fracture my skull and am admitted to hospital, and never regain consciousness, but am infected with Covid, and then die a day later, I am still a Covid statistic, even though by any common-sense analysis, I did not die from the Covid infection.
Extrapolate that across the entire country, and you have a seriously distorted set of figures about the deaths from Covid, and that is not information, that is scare-mongering.
Similarly, the current variant will be nasty if caught, and will kill some people, but it is not the Black Death, and the endless hysteria has got to stop.
Covid is here, it is not going to go away.
We have to assimilate it into our culture and get on with our lives, instead of being told to live in fear, and lose our basic freedoms.
We are in danger of 'saving' a world that no-one is really going to want to live in.

We can already probably see the effects of Omicron in the full data. It stands to reason that it's harder to prove that a given death is specifically from Omicron, rather than with it, but since Omicron arrived in the UK* we've seen cases rise, and the trend of hospitalisations and deaths reverse from its previous slow decline.
*NB cases started rising a few weeks before November 27th, but it's virtually certain that Omicron arrived in the UK before we detected it, so at least some of that rise is going to correspond to cases that are Omicron without being formally identified as such.

//Let us play semantics as the numbers begin to rise yes ?//
is not a sentence in English: I should know.
semantics is about meaning and shades of meaning ( syntax whether the words fit together [ the boy play / / or the boy plays]
and there isnt much semantic about - has he been vaccinated....or was he old? - or did he live in London

I imagine fear to be being put to sleep knowing a doctor will shortly be putting me on a ventilator and wondering whether I was going to survive
Stories abound of those who regret not taking the vaccine when offered only to be left feeling terrified when the scenario I have mentioned has been played out
