I wouldn't fancy rubbing an ibuprofen capsule on my sore knee, or swallowing a mouthful of Ibuleve!
Question Author
are they both gel? - the ibrufen tabs do not work for me at all.

Zacs - are they gel for the second time.
Question Author
At the moment neighbour gave me Ibrufen gel at 10% prescription from her doctor - but it is not great -
There's no such ting as Ibrufen, either as a tablet (capsule) of Gel. I think you may have conflated the words Ibuprofen and Brufen.
Ibuprofen is the active ingredient which can be administered in either tablet form or as a gel (to be rubbed in.)

Aye - brain not going too good as in pain. sorry for spelling
I'd say there is no such thing as ibrufen, it's the way some people refer to the actual painkiller ibuprofen which comes in tablets and gel at least. Ibuleve, like Voltarol, is a brand name of a gel that contains ibuprofen. Personally I don't find any that helpful, you could check the percentage of ibuprofen in any of them. I know Voltarol do a max strength version.

prudie - have apologised for my spelling
JJ I was typing all that while the other answers were coming in, didn't see them.
Voltarol does not contain Ibuprofen.

I am away to bed - good afternoon.
Well I never knew that sqad. I see it's diclofenic, I always thought it was ibuprofen based x
You can buy 10% ibuprofen gel over the counter, Boots have an own brand and Ibuleve is also 10%. Nurofen also do the same thing.

I am surprised a GP prescribes it, mine would tell me to buy it
ps as a former nurse, i must point out you shouldn't use other people's prescriptions :)

Bednobs - if I am in pain I would take rat's poison if even the rat would give it to me sorry - I try anything for relief. It's only a bit of gel for goodness sake.
Rat poison is taken daily by vast numbers of people, Jennyjoan, (as Warfarin) but it's for blood circulation problems. It ain't gonna help your dodgy knees ;-)

Have you tried the Voltarol product that's specifically designed for joint pain?
https://www.voltarol.co.uk/products/joint-pain-relief-gel/
Voltarol comes in two strengths, 1.16% and 2.32% so make sure you get the right one.
Question Author
Chris I have indeed tried Voltarol many times - bought via the chemist and also via Amazon - nothing worked.

I do believe exercise is the key to moving about so my cousin is getting a rollator that belongs to her aunt - so that I can at least exercise out in the back to get the oul knees dancing again.
We'll have you dancing the Can-Can at the Folies Bergère yet, Jennyjoan ;-)
