I've never heard of blood being given to a patient to self-administer at home. If a patient gets blood at home it would usually be a nurse who comes to the house to do the transfusion.
If she is talking about something that she swallows, I think it is unlikely to be actual blood. Maybe a tonic of some kind - many of these (eg Metatone) are blood coloured, and are often known as "blood tonics"
Well the Queen travels with a supply of her own blood - but I would imagine that it has to be kept at a stable temp.
Are you sure you heard your sister correctly?
jennyjoan; If she used to drink them I suspect they weren't blood. More likely just some tonic with a striking name, like Liver Pills or some such. Maybe someone else here will know more about it.
