A question for the ladies or doctors. I am extremely sore down below, infact its swollen, and sore when I pee, and is itchy occassionally. Its not thrush, as there is no discharge, and I have taken diffulcan and it hasn't worked, its not a STI as I am happily married and have only had my hubby as a partner, and we are both in a happy marriage, plus we use condoms for pregnancy protection reasons.

I can't get a doctors appointment until after xmas, but was wondering if anyone might have any idea what it can be, as I have only ever heard of thrush down below, and if there is anything to ease it until I get diagnosed.

Thanks

Could just be a slight infection, if you can't get a doctors app, i'd suggest popping into the chemist and having a quiet word with the Pharmasist, the ones near me are really helpful. Or ringing NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Bicarb in the bath may help with the itchyness and swelling, and maybe some antiseptic cream. Hope you feel better over Christmas x

It might still be thrush, I have had it with little or no discharge and when I took diflucan for a bout, not only did it not clear up, I got cystitis as well. If you can't get to the docs, you might try a canestan combi pack from the pharmacy, it contains a pessary and some cream, use both, when the pessary melts, it feels like scouring powder, but it does work. The cream is very soothing

Sorry to add that you should avoid sex, even protected, while you are clearing it up, It won't do you poor old tender bits any good and you risk giving it to your partner, he will keep the fungus around on his skin and then risks passing it back to you.

Its also worth chugging the old cranberry to avoid getting cystitis on top, which tended to happen to me. Also all the usual stuff about avoiding hot baths, scented soaps and gels, any exotic lotions and potions you might use.

Usual caveats apply, don't use the medicine if you are allergic to any of its components, if it doesn't clear up see a doc pronto, if it gets worse phone NHS direct (ha) or take your self to the emergency room.

Doesn't it ALWAYS happen at Christmas??

PS I am female, speak from experience, but not a doctor or nurse
Hi Topcat. If you're sure it's not thrush, it could be cystitis and as woofgang has mentioned, cranberry juice or barley water are very good.
As for the itching, I've used a product called vagisil which is an off the shelf product. Fortunately, I managed to trace the cause of my itching to a scented bath foam. It was an expensive one too, which was annoying.
As well as the other excellent advice you have been given; natural yogurt applied directly to the area is very soothing. Sounds weird I know but it does work.
This sounds like it might be an allergy to something, the obvious ones are condoms, sanitary towells or toiletries. All of which can produce the symptoms you describe. Give live yogurt a try, it can really be soothing and cool. Drink plenty of water and avoid wearing jeans which can aggravate the whole situation. Best wishes and hope you have a great Xmas.
just a note about the yoghirt, as long as it is only temporarily you can actually put it on a tampon to get it inside you, its the bacterium in natural yog that helps get rid of itching.
I think I would be telling my doctor that you really do need to be seen before Christmas I mean you are going to be miserable and uncomfortable ... they usually do have the facility to fit people in if they are in pain.
how much discharge is normal anyway?
I have found very good information about the vaginal discharge here: http://www.womenhealt...-with-three-symptoms/

I hope it's very useful...
