Before my wife had her hysterectomy she had very heavy and painful periods.

During one of the many tests she had to determine the cause, the specialist noticed the deep, ulcer type sores on her thighs and asked her if she had them on her breasts, too. She confirmed that she did but hadn't sought advice or treatment for them. The specialist wrote to her GP and he prescribed tablets which cleared up the problem.

He told her what it was and that it was caused by hormones. We can't remember what it was called but she now needs to know. Can anyone help? It was definitely a Latin name.

Did it have a name like pemphigus?
Or lichen sclerosus?
Question Author
Not ringing any bells, LadyC, and a quick google shows neither are similar to the very deep sores my wife had. They were on her outside thighs and upper breasts.
Can you remember what it began with?
Question Author
LadyC, we can't even remember if it was one word or two. A friend of my wife has very similar so we are trying to think what it is called so she can tell her GP.
Does the word erythema ring any bells?
Do you recall the name of the medication or still have the packaging? Perhaps google and see what it is treatment for.
Do you have the NHS app ? I have it on my ipad and every medicine I have been prescribed and the reason for having it are listed as far back as 2010
Question Author
Sadly not, LadyC.
Good suggestion, FoxLee, but this was over 30 years ago.
Definitely related to hormones
Question Author
Shall check out the app, thanks
Question Author
Sadly no joy from the app
My NHS app now shows all medicines and conditions as far back as 1994 !

Question Author
Not ours, Freda
Barry, how long did ms Barry take the tablets for ?
Question Author
Now you're asking, Anne. She is thinking she had to take two courses of 10 days each, but she's not sure.
Question Author
She had the hysterectomy not long after that and has been on HRT ever since, whatever was didn't come back.
I wonder why your app is not showing acute medicines. I did give permission for my GP to share everything as it is quicker whenever I have had to attend hospital for the doctors to know all about me . All vaccinations and repeat prescriptions also listed
I wonder if the medication was antibiotics ?
Question Author
Could have been, Anne.
Another suggestion - if your wife is still with the same gp surgery, the information needed will be in her notes and perhaps if you wrote to the gp or, if not the same one, whoever is her gp now, and asked for the name of the medication.
