Has anyone on here experienced a fractured back tooth? I have to have root canal work done on 7th Agust. That's the soonest I can get into Dentist surgery. He done a temporary filling a couple of weeks ago. Just lately it's been aching and I can't chew on the one side. The thing is, I'm flying off to S.Spain next Wednesday and it's worrying me I might have trouble. I just wondered if I could hang on until I come back after 9 days, or should I ring Dentist and try and get emergency appointment? Help! :-)

No harm in phoning your dentist for advice.
No, but you have my sympathy. My dentist is trying to find out if my tooth is cracked or not. Doesn't show up on x-rays but something's up. (Indeed only a few days ago he discovered that apparently I've lost bone in the area, how the heck does bone get itself lost ?)

Maybe take some ibuprofen with you (helped me) and keep your fingers crossed ?

Thank you both.
The aching is going off a bit now. It seems worse in the mornings. Maybe I grind my teeth at night and aggravate it. Still can't eat on the one side though. They do emergency appointments on a Tuesday, so I might ring then. Just didn't want it to spoil the holiday.
Maybe a nighttime gum shield might help with any clenching/grinding ?

Good idea, OG. Thank you.
I think I’d be ringing for advice if nothing else Patsy ,and ask your Dentist if the temp filling will hold till Aug 7th as you’re going on holiday
yes you need to see your dentist
or do it in spain - they have dentists there,
and you are gonna have to pay anyway

It's not that easy to get in. Like I said, Tuesday is the day they tell you to ring for emergency appt: I will at least have a word. It would blooming happen now, wouldn't it?!... Such us life. :-)
I was told (by a dentist)that the pressure in an aircraft cabin can cause severe pain in a defective tooth due to aerodontalgia.

Omg Zac, that's what I've been worried about!
I used to have bouts of Trigeminal Nueralgia, and the air pressure certainly started it off. I had to cover my mouth with a scarf one time to mufflethe screams. It was that severe.
I'm definitely going to ring now... :-)
aches and painful on eating
you need a dentist !
i feel poetry overcomes me ( Like Nausius in Frankie Howerd)

Ring ring
I 've got a thing
about my fractured tooth

can anyone sugest a better rhyme ?
I’ve had to go private twice just before going on holiday. Well worth it for not experiencing the pain.

Something to consider, Zacs. Thanks.
I had no choice. I’ve been on an NHS waiting list for over 3 years now with no likelihood of being accepted.
Patsy, read this. Astonishingly cheaper dentists in Turkey plus they pay for your accommodation while you're there.

I've heard good and bad posts about Turkey.
That's awful you having to wait 3 years for an appointment, Zacs. It's a one year - 18 months here. Hard times.
Not 3 years for an appointment. 3 years to get on the NHS list.
If you do your research you should be able to find a decent one I reckon.
