Has anyone on here experienced a fractured back tooth? I have to have root canal work done on 7th Agust. That's the soonest I can get into Dentist surgery. He done a temporary filling a couple of weeks ago. Just lately it's been aching and I can't chew on the one side. The thing is, I'm flying off to S.Spain next Wednesday and it's worrying me I might have trouble. I just wondered if I could hang on until I come back after 9 days, or should I ring Dentist and try and get emergency appointment? Help! :-)

On the NHS, that's what I meant :-)
OK. Emergency appointment it is then. Good luck with that Patsy:-))
Question Author
Thank you LB.
I have to ring 9 am tomorrow to try get an emergency appointment.
Had a fractured tooth years ago.
Was so painful.
Kept getting infections as well.
Scarred to visit a dentist due to a bad experience beforehand
with another dentist.
He took it out out, no problem and no problems since.
Get a decent dentist...

That was a bad experience for you, Nailit..
My Dentist has been very good so far.
I feel quite scared. Have always been nervous of going. I've read you need to wait 5-7 days after root canal work, before flying. We're flying out next Wednesday. So it all depends if he can do treatment in next day or two.
Get booked in ASAP and get it taken out Patsy.
Save all the faffing about and you won't regret it....
Loosing a tooth is no great deal.

I have thought about it!..
I'll see what dentist says tomorrow. :-)
You could do what my dad did once, so I'm told. He had tooth ache driving him mad so he went and bought a bottle of whisky. Sat in a chair by the fire and drank as much as he could and then his brother handed him a pair of pliers and out came the tooth. That's true that is;-)

I've heard a few stories like that from the past, LB.
If I tried that, knowing my luck, the tooth would break off! :-))

I had an emergency appointment yesterday. Unfortunately, the fractured tooth cannot be saved.
He was willing to take it out there and then, which to be honest, I wasn't ready for mentally. I had an anxiety Attack and couldn't go through with it. I know ideally, I should have done, but the stress & anxiety was out of control. I felt very upset with myself, still do. The next best option was to seal as much of the fracture as possible and a strong 5 day course of antibiotics. As I've mentioned, I'm flying out to Spain next Wednesday, for 9 days. So hoping things don't get worse while I'm away. Then when I come back, will arrange a date to definitely have it taken out. I will have to prepare myself mentally next time.
You've got 7 days to wait before your holiday, then 9 days away plus any waiting time. All the pain and worry. Gosh Patsy are you sure that's what you want? Get it out of the way so it's finished, don't put yourself though all of the above and ruin your holiday.
Question Author
I know your right, LB, my nerves let me down. I panicked. I haven't been sleeping very well lately and feeling stressed, which hasn't helped. I'm so so upset about it all. Now my husband is telling me off....
I would agree with Ladybirder - you might regret not having the tooth extracted - it could spoil your holiday. I once went to Malta almost immediately after having sprained both ankles - I should have cancelled the trip but I didn't and, not being very mobile, it did spoil the holiday somewhat.
You'd sleep better if you had that tooth extracted but you know that.
Moorea7, at least you could be pushed round in a wheelchair to help solve your problem. I can't think of anything similar for painful teeth. Patsy please have it done for yourself and hubby. xxxxxx
Ladybirder/Wheelchair - no such luck! Two legs!
I know it's not the same but just trying to point out how pain can
spoil a good time.
Question Author
I don't think my dentist can fit me in now. I'm going to ring early in the morning and see if there's a cancellation. They're shut Fridays.
I haven't been on that state for years. I just was expecting him to say he would extract the tooth There and then. I've always had a bit of a phobia anyway, when visiting Dentist. I feel calmer now just had a good cry. If I can't get in with my NHS Dentist tomorrow, I will try and go private.

In that state
Don’t be hard on yourself because you had an anxiety attack. Don’t worry ,all this will soon be over . Good luck .
Question Author
Thank you Anne, LB, Moorea x
people advise waiting 48 hours after an extraction before flying (though I didn't know this and flew the next day and had no ill effects).
