Was at the dentist today for my routine 6 monthly check up. When the dentist finished she informed me that the practice is going private and NHS patients would only get a routing check up every two years! I was then given a leaflet entitled "Pain Free Dental Plan". This "plan" will cost me £23.50 per month. At £282 per annum I feel I am being ripped off. Thoughts?

if you dont want to pay either find another nhs dentist, or go down to 2 yearly appts
Msybe wirth seeing what other dental practices are in the area.

I probably pay more than £282 a year. A single filling is an awful price these days. But it depends on what your plan covers.
can you ring if you have a problem and get NHS treatment?
Maybe worth...

The one _&"*^: time I didn't €_:7_%7_^ proofread.
This is starting all over I think no dentist near me taking on NHS patients our checkups meantime are yearly now.. think this will all phase out by the looks of things. Making more money off the private treatments.
I'm sure it's top of the lis of things to be sorted out by Rishi, saviour of us all.
I should add that if I do have to go private the standard of work better improve pronto.

Training of reception staff too.
Maggie, it’s not good enough, but this is how our health will be managed in the not too distant future. A checkup every 2 years is not enough.
I believe general practice will follow this system .
I have an electric toothbrush, a water flosser and a dental pick, (surprisingly not recommended by dentists). I use bicarbonate of soda instead of useless toothpaste and my teeth are in much better nick than when I visited the hygienist every six months. I reckon you need to spend about five minutes morning and evening to really clean your teeth.
Our practice went private a few years ago.
We each pay £12 a month and that gets us a check up and hygienist appointment every 12 months. At our age we feel that’s sufficient.
Initially ‘they’ said it would cost us double that for a check up etc every six months but we said we didn’t want that and there was no problem having what we have now.
Blimey!
Any Chimneny Sweep jobs going??...
All part of the systematic dismantling process.

Thanks for all your responses. I feel a bit let down as I have been with the practice for 60+ years. Going to have a look around for an NHS practice but may just have to bite the bullet. However, as Douglas says, the service had better improve.
nope or yes.... pay if you want a service or try to find an NHS and good luck on that.

and a newly qualified dentist is on much more than a junior doctor but hey that's life!
Sadly there are no dental practices accepting new NHS patients.

I expect to hear the same news every time I go to mine but fingers crossed. You feel let down but do hang on to what you have as sone practices round here aren’t even accepting new private patients!

Shocking isn’t it? Maybe just wait until you have your next NHS check up or need treatment and then pay if you have to.
I had, " Miss X filling your teeth, blimey she normally only does cosmetic"

Contact the hospitals on here, I work in what was a university dental hospital in Bristol and you be a patient with the students for nothing, they did pretty much everything for free, they have now moved to a new purpose built teaching hospital but the NHS hospital is still taking patients via referral.
Last visit to my dentists (NHS) I noticed they selling battery USB charge sonic toothbrushes for £20.95.
Took a picture and had a look on Amazon to see if cheaper and they were £40. On eBay selling for the same if not more.
So I popped back in next day and bought six.
Sold 5 on eBay for between £41.95 and £43.95 plus postage (£3.75).
Will keep the other …
Listed them on the 70% off selling fees weekend.
Nowt like a little profit :-)
I will look out for them - I dont usually associate dentists with bargains
