The article says never to use bleach on marble. I would disagree with this because if the marble is badly marked then bleach is the only substance that will clean it. After the initial cleanup, you can keep the marble looking good with a very regular clean with a soft brush and warm water.
This may make me sound like scrooge, but when the gold lettering on my mum's headstone started fading and peeling off, I was quoted a small fortune to have it sorted professionally. I bought a small can of gold paint and an artist's brush and touch up the lettering myself as and when it needs it.
