Shingles

I have Shingles, (itch, hives and pain) have been

given Aciclovir 800mg,

Is it safe enough while taking Bendroflumethiazide, 2.5mg.  Simvastatin 40mg Quinne, Diazepam 2mg.

I am also using Eurax Gel  which cools and is suppose to reduce the urge to scratch.

Any advice please.

I'm sure that if the doctor has prescribed your Aciclovir, the he/she will be aware of and contra-indications.

No, I have not had the vaccine,  when I went for my Flu/Covid injections I did querry this because of my age (78) Have never had shingles before, I did have Chickenpox when I was about 4/5 years old.

Dunno. I aint a doctor or a pharmacist but I had shingles many years ago. Symptoms as you describe but in addition I had terrible pains in my eyes. Doc gave me some medication and it took 3 weeks to clear up. Don't know what the medication was. Sorry.

Phone 111 if you can't wait to speak to your GP or pharmacist but are still worried

I've just read the contra-indications so if none of these apply to you, you'll be fine to use it

Tell your doctor if you take any of the following medicines before taking aciclovir:

cimetidine, a medicine for stomach ulcers

mycophenolate mofetil, a medicine given after organ transplants

probenecid, a medicine for gout

aminophylline or theophylline, medicines for asthma

I expect my Doctor to ask me next time I see him, who perscribe that. for you!

He never seems to remember what  he has or when he has referred one to the Hospital.

My pharmacy are very helpful.
