My Left Knee

This is a puzzle I hope someone can help with.

My knee is fine during the day, no problem bending, walking, climbing, lifting.

It's waking me up during the night - a very sharp pain that gets worse if I move my leg.  It wears off after 20 minutes or so.  It's not a cramp type pain, it feels as if it is going to crack. Even the bedding feels too heavy.

It doesn't get hot or look red.

Any ideas?

My name doesn't begin with 'B' however I'll chip in.  I've just been through a long episode like that, Barry, with my R. knee suddenly waking me up at night in real pain.

I have a hip and back problem and 2 hip replacements.  I first felt severe knee pain years ago, when it was an early sign of the hip joint going, so  Iwas suspicious and did all sorts of hip exercises and saw a physio (tried for months to get on lists with NHS & then had  1 appt..) did the prescribed exercises and it eased.  Are you sure  it is not connected to your hip?

I, personally, am still struggling with pain as hip area/sciatic is inflamed, but private physio & manipulation is helping. I'm also taking ibuprofen when necessary.  It does manifest as  inner-knee pain at times.

If you can't tolerate Ibuprofen (OH can't, due to heart medication)I have  prescribed Co-codamol  tablets which are strongerthan the ones you can buy.  Alternatively, the French nurses looked at me sternly and gave me 1g of Paracetamol when needed.

Thanks, jourdain, no problem with help or anywhere else.

I'll try the Ibuprofen and monitor the situation

barry; You don't say if you sleep on your side or your back. Just try sleeping on your back with some support under your knees to take the strain off the compression of the joints, like a small soft cushion or a rolled up towel.

I have had the same problem with my right big toe for the past few weeks.

No pain at all through the day but stabbing pains at night. No different shoes or anything. Same as yours, barry, not red or sore looking.

Just another pain to join the rest. I'm trying to ignore it.

Khandro > that's good help. I sleep on my back and place a pillow under my knees. The knee pain is then minimal, sometimes none at all.

I'll try that, Gill, thanks.  Ooops, I meant Khandro.

Gill, I'm hoping it will disappear as suddenly as it arrived.
