Question About People Who Spit A Lot

Obviously part of the reason is (dirty) habit behaviour but do some people just produce more saliva than others?

Only reason I ask is if I wanted to start spitting as an habit, I couldn't. I just don't produce that much saliva that I could keep expelling it.

Wigan buses in the fifties had notices inside saying "Spitting Strictly Forbidden Penalty 40 shillings" (might have been a bigger penalty but after all those years some details escape me). The thought that people might spit on the bus was rather disgusting; I mean, in the street's OK, but in the bus!

In those days there was lots of smoking, lots of air pollution, men working down the pit, TB and so on. So lots of spitting.

Davebro you're lucky I almost asked where it is that you live but that might have come across as stalkerish. There are a few rough areas near where I live so that might explain it.

I see it a lot  some men but usually young fellas and it turns my stomach

Just want to add, I've never seen a female spitting in the street.

When some people are arrested, they spit in the face of the police.

It really is a disgusting habit.

If you ever watch Man City, take note of their manager, Pep Guardiola when he's a little agitated on the touchline. He seems to produce some spittle, then suck it back in his mouth, the repears this a few more times. I think spitting is disgusting, but what he does is even worse.
