Have the rules/procedure changed? The last time I ordered a copy of a death certifate online I input the details and waited. I got a reply by email stating they had found the relevant death certificate and to pay the fee if I wanted a copy.
This time they are asking for payment first. It's not that long ago since I last ordered a copy, a matter of weeks, both for England.

I've bought bmd certs in the past for genealogy reasons, but stopped that as soon as the PO started charging on size rather than weight; and the GRO responded by starting folding my precious certificates in order to send them.
