Keir Starmer said in May they were likely to move on from that pledge because of the financial situation the country was in.

For most students though it won't mean an increase in repayment costs as they are just a graduate tax, a  % of income above a threshold. Most never repay their loans on full now so even fewer will in future.

What is of more interest in the Sun linked article, is that it was a Tory government that hiked the tuition fees from £3,000 to £9,000 (a 200% increase) in 2012; compared with Labour’s 3.1%.
