At a Royal Variety performance in the 1960s I believe, there was a comedienne soprano who did a lovely take off of Yma Sumak. As soon as she hit the stratospheric high notes, she was hoisted at high speed up into the flys, with her ball-gown fluttering. This hilarious image has stuck in my mind ever since. I seem to remember that her first name was, Joan, but I could be wrong. Does anyone remember her name please?

That's it, hellywelly4. I knew it was a straightforward name. She was a classically trained singer, with a wicked sense of humour. Thank you.

Here you go.

I've been looking her up - she had a very sad life despite her fantastic talent.
