I have an incredible painful big toe. Started yesterday when I woke up and got worse as the day went on. Hardly slept last night with the pain. Also can't move it. Any ideas?

Long shot but could it be associated with my hepatitis?

Thanks.

Gout?

Gout is the best guess. I had exactly those symptoms. Really painful. As I hobbled into the Drs he looked up and said..."Gout!"

I take allopurinal once a day and that stopped it and have had no issues in years now.

Thanks guys.

Having a quick look on Dr Google, it does seem to indeed be gout. Never had it before but its bloody painful.

i tooo  had  it  15 yrs  ago  took  allopurinal    no  probs  since

If not gout, with knowing something your history it probably is, it could be an ingrowing toenail, which can be extremely painful.

i got  up  to  pee 1 5  years  ago  bumped  my  toe  against  the  door/  foling  morning   big  toe  swollen  red  / went  to  doc  told  him  bumped  my  toe  against  door / he  said  u  did  not    i said  im  sure  i  did   no  he  said  you  now  have  gout

Gout  - cant be anything else

I think Allopurinal is available without prescription.

Pain- lansop beforeIbuprofen, and paracetamol - Limit 6g Para, 4g ibu a day

Hahahah I frequently point out to Ed the outrage of a non med mod, screaming blue murder over  this. I try to spread the ridicule fairly: Barry regualry gets it over the useof ALbend azole in Man he deleted leaving the antivaxxer crazy to stand

Scream on dear lady !

well it is incredz lucky you have me around

In gout, trauma localization typically refers to the joint that experiences physical injury, most commonly the big toe (first metatarsophalangeal joint), which can trigger a gout flare due to the presence of uric acid crystals in the joint, often causing sudden and intense pain, redness, and swelling; essentially, a "stubbed toe" can act as a localized trauma that precipitates a gout attack in a susceptible individual.

all mods go yappity yapp

Taking the diuretic Furosemide can increase the risk of gout in some cases ... is this something you have recently been prescribed?

yeah but no but

he is asking for pain relief innit?

o look at me ! effortlessly lapsing back into fluent AB ! I honestly wonder how I catch the nuances relentlessly

Ah me: my talent is wasted

Is he?

//Taking the diuretic Furosemide can increase the risk of gout//

not something ive ever taken Haz,

just taking ibuprofen at the moment until i can try to get to see my GP on Monday.

Allopurinol is an effective over the counter treatment for gout but you must not take it, Nailedit as you have serious problems with your liver.

Cheers Barry.

Will see what any alternatives are available if I can get to see my Gp on Monday.

If you can't get an appointment with your GP, try your pharmacist.

Your pharmacist will be able to advise what you can take for your gout which won't interact with any other medication, or your medical conditions.

Try to ignore well-meaning suggestions regarding types of over-the-counter medications you could buy - you need to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Thanks for all replies guys.

Cant really do anything until Monday now anyway.

Didnt realise just how painful gout can be. Thought it was just like a dull ache or something.

Thanks again.
