If your mum doesnt want to go to the doctor, try using a good quality knee support stocking, ( not Tubigrip), available from the chemist. It should prevent those little twists which kepp causing fluid to form. I had to wear mine for about two weeks and I'm fine, now.
Wish her luck.
This sounds what we used to call 'housemaid's knee' now politically incorrect I fear. The tubigrip recommended above really does help, and I have only had it when I have kneeled for long periods cleaning something and so now I make sure I never do and it has not recurred. http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a/kneebursitis.htm
