I had both of these done. No lump with the nose but got the lump on my ear. It's cartilage that grows around the stud/ring causing the lump, it is 1,000,000 times more likely to happen at the top of your ear than on your nose. Make sure you get your nose pierced on the crease this should stop any problems.
My girlfriend has a lump on her ear. But NO piercing! Maybe she has been keeping secrets....

I had a part of me pierced and it gave me a limp. So I can sympathise with your predicament, Swizz.
Hi Swizz, think I replied to you before. But I had the top of my ear pierced about 20 years ago, never had any problem. Also had my nose pierced, although I do not wear anything in it now. There is no lump, but its quite noticable that I have a piercing there. Maybe more to me, than others. Good luck
Goodsoulette is right - its cartilage that is punched through when you get the top of your ear done. The only way you can prevent it is by having a more indepth piecing whereby its like a mini op and the do actually 'holepunch' the ear. But once its grown back its not going away. Make sure as GS says you talk to the piercer if your considering having your ear studed as it too contains cartilage.

I had my nose done a few years back. It grew a kind of blistery-looking cartilage lump thing behind the actual piercing, both inside and outside of my nose. It became so bad that it was bigger than the actual stud (and your first studs have to be quite big before you can progress onto the smaller ones!)

I'm not saying it as a scare story but just to make you aware, I think it was down to two things;

I'd say 1) make sure the stud is pure gold and sterilsed before it goes in your nose and 2) mke sure you clean in everyday and hopefullyit'll be ok.

I did take a while to go down and I still have a lump of catilage inside my nose but not on outside.

Mind you - this was all 7 years ago - things may have improved dramtically since then!

Swizz it's yuk but I did the top of my ear myself about (eek) 20 years ago and remember about a week later pulling out a white lump of hardish goo. I never had any more problems. I think it may have been cartilege.

hiya,yeh when i had my nose pierced i had the lump on the inside of my nose,but i cant remember having it on my ear tho,b/cuz i had my nose pierced with a piercing gun ,i think thts what made the lump,but i dunno,im no piercer lol but yeh i took my nose stud out and let it heal up and the lump is their but has gone down a lot.

hopes it been a help.xox
