Is it normal, as an adult, not to sleep through the night? I will wake up at least once or twice. Not neccessarily for long periods of time and I'm not troubled in any way (not that I know of conciously at least!), but I'm sure I used to and don't any more. Has anyone else had this?

I wake up a couple of times every night, i turn over and go back to sleep. I dont think it is a problem in anyway.

Your bound to get woken up by outside noise, partner in bed or some people move when they dream this may wake you but you cant remember why.

I think there is a whole range, some who don't sleep much at all and some who go out like a light never to emerge until the morning. I don't think it matters as long as you are in good health and it is not affecting you adversely and I suspect one wakes up more as the years pass.
I am the same, wake up every hour or two and then go back to sleep. But always very tired in the morning and can't get up !!
Virtually everybody I know confesses that as they grow older, they seem to sleep less well. Whether or not we actually need as much sleep, I'm not sure (as I seem to need all I can get!) But I suspect our sleeping patterns depend on many things - stress, amount of exercise we have (or haven't) taken, too much alcohol, eating too late, a full bladder, external noise, etc. I can't remember the last time my head hit the pillow and I didn't wake up again until morning and I'm sure it's a fairly common state of affairs.

if you find small noises are a problem, try listening to very quiet 'floaty' music, so that any sudden small noises won't seem in such sharp relief in the silence.

you could also try taking the herbal remedy Kalms

I find if I knock one out before I nod off, I sleep all the way through.
Yeah Fish Kid is right. It's all to do with the release of endorphines.

I wake up all the time during the night, I might have to put Fish Kids plan into action, not sure the wife will be too pleased.
