Wee laugh - I lost the left lens a few weeks ago and have gaily been going to the pub quiz and everything I need specs for with just one lens cos the one I lost was normal. The giveaway is my eyelashes come out the the empty bit and when I go to itch my eye I just poke my finger through:)
I'd say it is, but due to dominant and recessive genes it isn't always easy to trace the source.
My mother has a similar prescription to her father, while my father was the only person with his in the family we know of besides one cousin. My uncle had similar to mine but 45' shifted, but my grandma has almost the same as me but not nearly as strong.
But look at how many families have a bunch of shortsighted children, like height short sight is due to enlarged eyeballs so it's just a size issue which is usually genetic for short sight. Astigmatism is so unique per person you can see exactly where they get it from if you find anyone else with it.
