My sister's boyfriend has a really pungent body odour, it doesn't smell like normal BO, it almost smells like cat wee. He has no sense of smell so can't smell it himself. My sister has talked to him about it before, he uses deodorants and washes regularly, does anyone know what could be causing this? Is there any way to stop it? I used to go out with someone who smelled the same, so I know it can't be a one off smell.

Strange question, but does he wear underpants? I assumed every chap did until I learned of one or two who didn't, in which case those inevitable toileting splashes will become engrained in the fabric of his trousers. And if they don't get washed very often, the smell will travel around with him.

as far as I know he wears boxers. I think it's definitely sweat as I remember walking into a room where they'd been and the smell was overpowering, I don't know how my sister can stand it!

Does he take any drugs (prescribed or otherwise)?

I've heard that sometimes people who take things can smell different. It's like when you eat strong food or have a lot alcohol, the smell comes through your pores for a time afterwards.

Or is he a bit overweight as sometimes being large means you give off a sort of vinigery type smell especially on your feet. Or what about the food he eats? That could be seeping through his pores.

nope he is underweight for his height 6feet 9inches and he eats all the same food as us usually and won't touch spicy food.

My bf occasionally gets a smell like that, and its usually when he is stressed or driving. And one armpit is always worse than the other. He always keeps deodorant in the car. Luckily, unlike your sister's bf, mine is very aware of it and showers often.

I think there are very strong anti-perspirants on the market but Im not sure of the names, sorry.

I know at least one couple who used to smell like that, funny cats wee smell, and they both used to smoked heavily. They gave up smoking (well done them!!) and now - no strange smell. Does your sisters boyfriend smoke?

i live with my male cousin and he used to smell like this basically he wasn't washing his clothes properly. He would try and dry them screwed up or in a cold room and they would take ages and then smell strange.

Question Author
no Mata Hari he doesn't smoke, I don't know about the clothes thing though Rach4018 it could be that. The next time my sister brings the subject up with me I'll ask her about it. Thanks for your answers everyone!
