Depression is a state of mind more then anything else. So to combat it you need to forget it. Give yourself summin to do and be involved with.

If you want to buy some, Igennus sell it at a reasonable price, but a company called 1st Vitality sell it the cheapest I've seen when bought in bulk. Also two people sell it on ebay - the cheapest way to get it if you only want 1 or 2 tubs.
I've got M.E. and it has been a Godsend, truly.
first, beware of who you socalise with. because to me, in your case it seems to be encouraging you to turn into an alcoholic. besides drinking, what do you like doing. i'm sure you must enjoy doing something. find a hobby and loose yourself in it. also taking long walks relaxes the mind and hopefully you might see things clearer. take up dancing or enroll in a cooking class. join a book club. some of us, when we have too much free time, we get bored and call that depression.
it's all in the mind. if you believe you are depressed, then ask yourself, why are you depress? what's making you depress? if you are able to answer those questions then you can help yourself overcome your problem.
if all else fail, then get a jar and each time you take a drink put 5 quids in the jar. if you stay true to it, you will see how fast you depression / drinking disappears.
Hey.i have went throught severe depression.i found the best thing was therapy.my advice is to not touch any anti depressants.from my experience they dull out and prolong the problem.the best thing to do is sort it out in your head.no drugs or anything else can help your state of mind.like a few have suggested a hobby is ideal.find interests.a book i found extremely helpful was "the road less travelled" by M scott peck.hope this helps
