Hi, I have been experiencing slight pains in my right wrist recently. I do a lot of data input on a computer at work, and this appears to trigger it. Is this classed as RSI? A friend said there would be some swelling or something if it was. Not sure what to do about it, as I have to input data as part of my job, but I am worried about my wrist.

RSI means " Repetetive Strain Injury" bond. My hubby has this condition due to his work but his pain is in his shoulder. His GP prescribed Brufen an anti-inflammatory.
Ooops, I misread your post! My hubby does'nt get any swelling in his shoulder. His Gp suggested he change his posture. Could you do that?
quite likely. RSI isn't an illness as such, just an umbrella term for a lot of aches and pains caused by repetitive movements, such as using computers - which can cause irritation anywhere from your fingers to your back.
Me again! On the other hand (excuse the pun" you could have "Carpel Tunnel Syndrome". Best to ask your gp bond:-)
I have the same thing when I am using the mouse a lot and I actually swap to the other hand for a week or so but that is probably easier for me because I am left handed. There is an elastic bandage thing in Boots which I think is for sports injuries but I find if I wear that then it really helps. There are rules and regulations which your employer should be following, although most don't . .about breaks and things .. but it doesn't hurt to read them, you will find them probably on the website of the Health and Safety Executive somewhere. It is not a thing to mess about with though because it can lead to some quite bad problems in the future, the key is to catch it early and get it rested, and your employer has a duty to ensure this, even if it meant putting you on another task for a while .....
I have this and have very shaky hands, them mat things to rest your wrist on when typing and using mouse are good :-)
careful about resting your wrists while typing, it can add to pinched nerves and restricted bloodflow. Are there some special rests you can get 4getmenot?
If you do a lot of data input at work then you are entitled by law to a work place assessment by a qualified to person to make sure that your workplace and the equipment you use is correctly positioned for you. RSI should be taken seriously.

i also suffer from RSI...in my wrist..it comes and goes but when its there you know about it..i've had quite a few incidents with cutting my feet and legs because i drop stuff i.e knives and plates cups etc..its not nice. i had anti inflammatory but it didnt work for me, i guess everyones different though.

hope you get it sorted...hollie x

Whilst typing try have your wrists straight (that is, not flexed) as this can reduce strain. There are rubber wrist-rests for in front of your computer keyboard which help support the wrists too.
