(I know I posted this last night but it got banned, for some reason!!.. and it got loads more answers which I didn't get to read)

My friend has been having problems with her stomach. Everytime she eats something she ends up feeling bloated and sick afterwards. She thought it was because she was eating bread everyday for her lunch at work so she tried having soup instead and she still felt bloated and sick afterwards. She went to the chemist and told them and they seemed to know what she had and gave her some pills but also said if it persists then she should go and see a doctor. It has persisted so she has made an appointment. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I know that the doctor will just fob her off with some stupid pills.

Thanks xx

You don't know that her doctor will fob her off.

If she has no faith in her GP she needs to change doctors.

The doctor will give your friend much better advice than you will ever get by asking a lot of strangers.

It could be so many things it would be dangerous for anyone to try and give a diagnosis here.

Ethel - She is going to the doctors anyway but I am trying to shed some light on it for her. I find alot of the time unless you suggest something to the doctor they don't know what it is.

My doctor is just the same and when I went to the doctors with a similat tummy problem they prescribed me with Gaviscon. Then when that wasn't working I went back and told them so they prescribed me with Gaviscon Advanced! In the end I went to a Homeopath!

get your friend to ask her doctor to test her for a range of different food allergies such as dairy and gluten intolerence both of which would require a stricter diet than just cutting out one or two things.

good luck to your friend.

I agree with the allergy comment.

Best to ask doctor to refer her to an allergy specialist if GP cant diagnose anything. It may be a sudden intolerance to wheat or dairy.

Just make sure your friend continues to see GP until something is diagnosed.

It might be Irritable Bowel Syndrome. A friend of mine had it. Some days she would be in agony just from having a piece of toast! Her appetite became really poor simply because she was afraid to eat because of the bloated feeling and pain. Her G.P referred her to a dietitian, who help a great deal. She is completely over it now.x
I have IBS and this is one of the symptoms.

Things that make it better include: Yakult, All-Bran, Lentils... Eat anything fibrous, and drink lots of water between mouthfuls.

Try to avoid pasta, breads, potatoes... e.g AVOID ANYTHING NICE! jk ;)
