It could be the acidity of the juice but I could say more If I knew the following:
1) When did the ulcers start? 2) How many due you have at any one time? 3)Where are they located e.g. tongue, lips, hard palate, gums etc. (this is quite important) 4)How big are they? 5)How long do they take to heal and when they do, do they leave marks/scars? 6)Have any of them persisted longer than 3 weeks? 7)Are you tired or pale in complexion at the moment? 8)Are you under alot of stress?
If it was merely the orange juice then you would expect the ulcers to heal soon after you stopped drinking it. Im sure you dont think so but the fact that your in pain, means that the ulcers probably arent of a serious nature.
As FINA says adcortyl in orabase would be helpful but not if you cant identify the cause (however sometimes non can be identified!). You can by the paste from most chemists, it comes in a 5g tube, it should only be used for five days and should the ulcers not heal or persist then its important to see a doctor or dentist.
Hey thanks everyone > i am using the paste that comes in the 5mg tubes but it does not seem to be working . I aint asure when they started but i only get one at a time adn this time its on my cheek at the back near my gum and it is medium ish size like half a pea they usuaully take 4-5 days and no scars are left when they clear and i have never had one over 3 weeks and i am not underany stress etc :
Also does anyone know of any natural remedies etc i can use or just what i can to it rather than medicence etc :
thanks sooo much peopel x-x-x-x-x-x-x
Nursecarla severe vitamin C (AKA Ascorbic acid) deficiency results in scurvy. One of the first sites (due to the high tissue turnover rate) is the mouth, sometimes resulting in mouth ulcers. Im sure you knew that of course.
Its possible that the intrinsic acidity of the orange (or more likely additives) could be causing the ulcers. It will certainly be excerbating the painful symptoms.
I have never read any papers implicating an excess of vitamin c in the aetiology of oral ulceration. However new discoveries are made everyday, Im vevy intrigued at the suggestion.
Hi miffy053 certainly doesn't sound like you ulcers are serious. Even though Im sure they are extremely uncomfartable.
Tha 'standard' treatment would involve using a chlorhexidine e.g. Corsodyl mouthwash or a spray twice a day when the ulcers are present. Avoid chocolate, crisps and anything containing benzoates e.g. fizzy coke. I would NOT rinse out with salt water as you will probably find this extremely uncomfortable.
