To settle an argument.

When a female's vital statistics are given as, say 36 24 36, is the bust measurement taken around the bust or under the bust? I know that bra size is the measurement under the bust, and then the cup size depends on the size of the bust, but always though that vital statistics were based on the measurement around the bust.

Thanks

So it would seem to be better to express vital statistics such as:

36(D) 24 36 to give a true indication of a figure!

Now where is my old hoola hoop - I must get to work on my middle!!

Hmmmm...36-36-36 doesn't conjour up a nice image does it? heh heh.

I am with you & the hoola hoop!

But surely its mandatory to tighten the tape in the middle ;)

Tighten it Slooow Jo?! - When I do that the tape disappears under the folds!!!! ;o)

I have been trying for months to find a bra with clear straps in a 36G but no luck so far.Any idea's?

Just found this link which is quite helpful too.

Oooops this one too!

Robinia's answer did make me laugh!

Hello Smudge. Thanks for those. I still can't reconcile myself to the fact that those busty beauties of 48" bust fame, etc. took their measurements from under the bust. I seem to remember that back in the dim dark ages we quoted the bust measurement around the fullest part of the bust when we gave our statistics.

Hi gessoo - hope you & your's are well.

I've been laughing my head off at some off the answers, 'specially your's, Robina & Shaney's!

Like Robbie, I was blessed with small breasts which I hated as a youngster, but I'm quite pleased now, 'cos they don't give me too many problems buying a bra (36C).

I have always measured around my actual boobs, not under & like you can't believe the busty beauties of size 48" measured underneath them! Whatever would the size around them have been?!!!!

Gessoo - it is taken under the bust as with a bra measurement, the cups size goes up 1 size for every inch above the size e.g. a lady measuring 36" under the bust and 40" around the middle of the breast, 4" differenc ewill make her a 36D and so on and so forth.

Pippa68 I have to disagree, I take a D/DD and it is impossible to find anything that holds them in place and if you can I normally have to pay anything upto 30 for something feminine and sexy

You can find some good supportive ones, but they look like something Granny should wear, God forbid I should be run over on a work day, the Paramedics would die laughing at my boulder holders!!!!

Any of you done the pencil test?? (not really on the subject of measurments, more just boobs!)

Question Author

Oh dear, I have just done the pencil test (with a biro 'cos I couldn't find a pencil!) Age has taken it's toll somewhat.

Smudge, like you a hated my smaller bust when I was younger, but am quite pleased nowadays not to have too much. However, I was a 36A cup (ah Bless) and have increased a few sizes!!!. I have at least now got a cleavage (not much use to me now though!!!)

Thanks folks for all your contributions and good answers. As well as learning something, I have had a good laugh as well. Long live AB!!
Pencil test? whats a pencil test?

Ah, I remember my dear Mum buying me my first bra when I was 14. It was called a 'Rosebud Bra' from Woolies & was a size 28AA!

I wore a vest or liberty bodice up until then - aaarrrggg!

caz if you put a pencil underneath your boob & it stays there when you let go then you're a wee bit droopy
.....and if you can hold a stick of rock, well, ....... :o)

I've just been up the shed to see if I can find a that old broom handle .....!
