Is it possible to end world poverty?

I am raising money for child workers who are forced to work in dangerous conditions to pay off debts.However it got me thining.What is the point?I do not believe we can ever stop world poverty or the causes of it.I also feel that for every child that is helped by my efforts many more will become workers .Do you think we can ever stop world poverty?Or should we just give eu now?

I think you just need to look at what you as an individual can do and stop looking at the big picture.

Only countries and prime ministers and the UN can sort out the bigger issues.

All you can do is try to help a few people and take your satisfaction from that.

It is possible to end world poverty, but the individuals who have the power to do so have already demonstrated that they like things just the way they are - it's the only way they get into a position of power in the first place.

The fact that successive governments turn blind eyes to poverty is a situation unlikely to change, but that is never a reason to stop plugging away at the problem in what ever way we, as individuals, can.

Any good you do is good which would go undone if you stopped, so all you can do is be an example, and do what you are able, safe in the knowledge that you do what you are able to do - while others in positions of power fail to do what they can - and the responsibiloity for the endless grinding misery of a large part of the world's population lies with them.

Of course, no one with power ever uses that power to give themselves less of anything - except a concience.

Hello sexy, well you can't save the world that's right enough for sure, but you can do a small amount to help on as many levels as you can ,so you should keep doing whatever it is nice that you are doing.I do whatever I can in the course of my business dealings to be helpful and charitable to those that cross my path and I buy ethically and trade as ethically as possible but charity also begins at home, and if you are not in a strong personal situation then you can't help people less well off than yourself so I sometimes do things that don't always sit 100% comfortably with me on a purely personal level. Just raise your money and raise people's awareness and if we all make a small difference it's not long before a big difference is made.Nice question by the way:)

Thank You.It was indeed.I did warn the others that I was about to ask a question that would stun them with maturity,sensitivity and kindness.This is the first time I have ever done anything kind to anyone so I am trying to be kinder and more charitable.

While there is corruption in the world there will be poverty, look at your own Country, Russia, communism was going to make all men equal, did it? No it made a few people very rich,and a lot of people very poor,you will never wipe out corrupt people,personal greed takes over in the end.

Hum.My Dad is one of those very rich people but he is not greedy at all.In fact he does alot for charity.I know what you mean though.Where my parents live there is a beautiful village full of huge mansions and posh boutiques and a mile or so away there are the slums.People living in terrible conditions freezing in the cold.I never even knew people lived like that until I was about 13.People live in two different worlds in Russia.

I am not saying your dad is corrupt,but a lot of the people at the top in every country of the world,be it Britain or russia are out to make as much as they can for themselves,look at the labour party here,hardly socialists looking after the people are they,yet Britain is one of the fairest places to live, Look at the corruption in Nigeria,they are letting people die,but the top men get richer and richer

If you'd looked at most countries in the world 300 years ago you'd have seen dreadful poverty, repression and slavery.

Most people would have told you that that was the way of the world and nothing could be done.

They were clearly wrong.

You do need to be a politician to make change but you don't need power.

William Wilberforce stopped slavery in Britain - he was just an ordinary MP. Ghandi was just a lawyer.

Ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things

i dont think you can end world poverty en masse bbecause it will always be relative. However, if you are doing some fundraising, you can certainly make a world of difference to the recipient/s of that charity

Yes we are doing some fundraising for save the children .We are helping a campaign on there to stop child slavery.I think it is a worthy cause.We are making cakes and selling them to the students.I feel like a little kid again making cakes but it always does really well.I suppose everyone likes cakes.I am making chocolate rice krispie cakes with smarties.

I think you are joking.To be fair try getting students to give money when they have none themselves.They only give money if they get something in return.It is all for a good cause.Also we are putting pictures up of us as toddlers to see if the others can guess who we are.My one is SOOOO obvious.

good for you sexyR, i'm proud of you. that's a very responsible project you are engaging in. i myself is not rich, but i always give where and when i can to help the less unfortunate. i truly believe that there is enough for everyone in this world. but the rich uses there wealth and influence to corrupt, and cheat the poor to satisify greed.
