Atheist and death beliefs

Do Atheists believe is a grief process for deaths. Where do we go if we are an atheist? Is it possible for an Atheist to provide comfort to someone close to them who has had a loss of someone close to them?

Yes Blackie. As an atheist who has recently been bereaved, I did think that my friend would go on to somewhere else - not sure I would call it heaven, but somewhere better. My friend, also an athiest, believed that he would go somewhere where he would meet up with his mum and dad again. he believed that our time on earth is just the beginning of a really long journey which gets better and better and I think so too. So I suppose that whilst atheists don't believe in god, they don't necessarily think that when you die your life is snuffed out for good.

Of course it is. My brother is an atheist but would be the best comfort where loss is concerned. To me, grief is a natural process that doesn't involve religion, unless of course you want it to. That is like saying unless you believe in God then you can't grieve, two seperate things. Grief is a feeling, religion is not!

I'm agnostic, but it doesn't stop me from grieving a loved one anymore or less than a person who does believe, and also consoling such.
