As I've mentioned before, my flatmate and me, whilst being best mates for years, are often like chalk and cheese. He's very much a glass half empty kind of person, wheras I'm the opposite. In the pub last night we somehow got onto to discussing whether we had faith in the goodness of the average person, or whether you should be suspicious straight away. I'd rather give everyine the benefit of the doubt straight away, but he'd rather people work for his trust and kindness. After 3 or 4 pints this has now morphed into a challenge about the kindliness and humour of the average person. And this is how it goes.
I am to purchase a small stuffed toy, and tie a note around it's neck. This note will announce who the teddy is and that he wants to go on adventures. If you pick him up you're supposed to take him somewhere interesting and take a photo, e-mailing it to his brand new hotmail account. Once finished, you're to give him to someone else to do the same thing. He's bet me a fiver that I never hear any correspondance back. What does everyone reckon the chances are? And wehere should I leave him do you reckon?

wherever you leave him,it will depend on the person who finds him, i would play along cos thats me,i like a laugh,i'd love to take him away and get his pic to send ya,plenty of gnomes have done it!!tell ya mate to get his money out,he's gonna be payin' out!!
That sounds like great fun!! You could leave him anywhere - bus stops,parks,anywhere....Can I have him???
ohh i like the sound of that can i have him?
I think I'd do it if I found him :oD

I was once tempted to steal somebody's garden gnome and take photos of it around the world then return him safely one day like in the film 'Amelie', but I think it's probably an arrestable offence :o\

Try leaving him in a library or something - somewhere quiet enough that he's noticed and not trampled on
i would definately do it, what a cool idea. surely if the person who found him wouldnt take on the challenge then they would leave him for the next person to come along??
mys sister and her friend on a drunken eve once "borrowed" all the garden ornaments in her road and put ransom notes thru people's letter boxes.Trouble was when the had sobered up they couldn't remember which went in whose garden!!

At the moment i'm thinking I might leave him in a cafe, because I'm irrationally assuming that the clientel there will be more disposed to this sort of thing.

I've got my fingers crossed that he ends up everywhere from Spearmint Rhino to Mt. Everest.

Pink and mccfluff - Perhaps you will get him one day.......

I'm off to buy him now.
Yay! Send him up towards me in Brum!
I like the idea ... and would join in the fun. If the first person to find it is a miserable sod the idea could be a non starter. So I would try to lessen the odds of that happening by taking him to a tourist attraction in London and sit with him having a drink : put the first entry on yourself picture him at the place saying todays the big day etc ... don't forget to let us know where we can access the adventure ! Bonne Chance.

Don't forget to laminate his label.
i've got a horrible feeling i may be embarssing myself soon by acosting every small soft toy i see in case he's the 'one' can you post a pic before you send him off on his travels!

"McFluff in Child Stealing Incident - 'I only put him down for a second!' says a teary-eyed toddler" :oD
I think you've got every chance of success Supernick.
I'd choose a toy who is universally well known too like Pooh, Snoopy, Garfield etc. Sense is right, you start the ball rolling and put a label explaining that you are trying to prove that on the whole people are good, make sure you put the picture with you on the website first so that if people look they know you mean it. Can you tell us what the website address is/will be so we can track him.
mccfluff is right,i dont want to upset some poor kid when i nick is beloved toy,,i could never live with myself, get us a nice BIG pic and story on the news so we all know what to look out for!
I found a book in a pub once "The curious incident of the in the night " with a post it note saying read me and pass it on. Really made my day - was a hardback as well.

I'm going to have to up my efforts now - laminator and a website, but shouldn't be too hard I suppose. I'll be spending all afternoon knocking up an introduction note now, rather than working as I should be.
Very much like the tourist spot idea. I can walk to Westminster in a lunchtime no problem, so could picture him at Big Ben, leave him somewhere out of harm's way and he'll be on his merry, or not so merry way.
I think your mate might be surprised! Things like this are great fun. We have a travelling bear in our local. he goes on holiday with all the regulars and has his photo taken. He's even been to Hawaii. He has holiday clothes but when he's in the pub he prefers bondage gear. His leather pants are great. I am taking him to Spain with me in September!!! When he is in the pub he has his own cabinet where he sits in his deckchair, surrounded by his holiday snaps!
I do hope you prove your mate wrong. I am on your wave length, glass half full and i always give people the benifit of the doubt. Although this has backfired on me several times, Im glad i 'm like that !
do you mean the curious incident of the night-time? ive got this book on my shelf but havent read it yet, is it any good?>
i meant the curious incident of the dog in the night-time
Question Author
It's an excellent book adamaski. One of the best that I've read over the last year or so. Get it off the shelf!
make sure the toy is not a 'named' character as it will likely just get nicked - i would also suggest a charity shop find as someone may just give it to someone as a gift if its new, or even just keep it for their kids.

actually the charity shop thing sounds quite fitting. it could be his first adventure - the escape from the charity shop!! lol

also many things would be an adventure to a toy - a day at the office, a trip on a bus, a pub beer garden, a school day, etc so although trips abroad etc would be cool, so would any response really

i want to do this now!
