Wearing Shorts

I work in an open plan office. A member of staff has recently asked management if it would be possible to wear shorts in the office. Due to the exceptional hot weather we have been experiencing I can see why the question was asked.
I personally don't have an issue with shorts, i personally wouldn't wear them myself as they wouldn't go with a shirt and tie, but I'm perturbed that the person in particular is over 60, he has a pair of sandals hidden in his work drawer that he puts on when he gets to work in the morning and to tell the truth his toes are rather scabby. Its been known that he is a bit of a letch, leering at the girls in the office. I just don't think it would look a pretty sight.

The management have said it is not proper work attire. He has now lashed back stating it is sexist, due to the young girls he is leering at wear shorts in the office that is deemed acceptable. Do you think this is fair?

I do know the legislation relating to the Health & safety issues and extreme weather in relation to working conditions, but as i know this is an 'in' joke i will withhold the info, : )

As a manager, I have had this problem before. People complaining about other peoples attire. My answer to you is the same. If its clean, non-offensive and safe, shut up and go bother someone else!!
