Feelings Towards Heathrow Threats?
39 Answers
Morning All,
Sorry to start the day with such a serious question....
But just hearing about threats on Heathrow today got me down a bit.
I just think it's really sad what the World's coming to because of the War - it's ruining everything.
Apparently 18 people have been arrested after there were threats to blow up planes through mid-flight.
Personally, i find it really scary considering the effects of 9/11 and 7/7.
Maybe because i live in London and i'm due to go on holiday at the end of the month is why i'm slightly more concerned.
How you feeling after hearing the news today?

Firstly, it's not just Heathrow, it's every airport in the country!!
Second, I'm really glad I'm not travelling today - I feel sorry for those who are.
Thirdly, I'm glad I'm not travelling at all this year!!
I did actually travel to America not long after the World Trade Centre was destroyed and I admit I was sh****ng myself!! It really is scary that this has happened and to be honest it's even scarier that the 20 people arrested are British born. And if Tony Blair doesn't come back from his holiday this very day, he should be thrown out of Downing Street!!!

Hi Nat, There's a post running on this in the News section too....
It is worrying and very disturbing that such methods of destruction are being used, but I can't help but get annoyed at those complaining about delays etc when the reality is, you could be on the last journey of your life if such extreme security measures aren't taken.
Too many people are quick enough to kick up a fuss without considering the possible outcome of their flight today.

I really fear for the future and for what my children will have to face. As technology progresses, so society seems to regress . I love my healthy, happy family life and feel very scared that there are people out there who would rip it apart quite willingly without a second thought.
These people are so fanatical about their cause, it is very difficult to imagine a serious enough punishment for them, given that they are preared to give their lives to achieve their aims.
My hubby was in London on 7/7 for a job interview. Couldn't contact him for nearly 7 hours. Very scary.

yeah i know theres a bit in the news section, but just thought i'd see how people felt when they heard the news etc. And this section tends to get a bigger response.
It must be a nightmare at all airports and my heart goes out especially to all families with young kids/babies.
If i was due to fly on holiday today i honestly dont think it'd be worth the hassle or risk.

Its awful. The thought that someone could plot to do such things is stomach churning.
The worse thing that i heard was the people with babies and baby milk are having to taste the milk in front of security to show its nothing dangerous. Thats fair enough but then you realise that they means they believe that a parent could be a bomber. Thats scary.

Why is it so shocking that mothers are being asked to test their baby's formula? The whole focus is on liquids being used to detonate during a flight, If these people are happy to take the lives of so many people I can't see them saying
'using baby milk is just plain wrong!'
They're there because they believe the message they're trying to send is right and will go to any lengths to convey that message.
I'm sure some of the people who took part in the 9/11 & London bombings were parents too.

Lore,
I didnt say it was shocking that parents are being asked to test formula I wouldnt complain if i was asked to do it in interest of the safety and security. I said its shocking when you realise that the bombers could be parents. You never imagine that the person sat next to you on a plane with a baby could be a bomber do you (well i certainly dont)? It just makes you think.

MI5 and the polices have to be on their toes, and have an extremely hard job. Even although they do make mistakes at times and have to accept rhe huge amount of criticism they still get on with it. This must be a nightmare for all those in the travel industry and for the traveller themselves, however much inconvenience caused it has to be accepted.
It is scary but me myself dont let myself think about it. I've always thought if its gonna happen its gonna happen. Why be scared your whole life. I was on a train the week after 7/7 and a muslim guy got on with a rucsac, obviously everyone being a bit wary anyway but then he started praying. I watched as people got off at the next stop to get away but I stayed, if it happens it happens.
